Information Sources

Periodicals are published periodically and include magazines, scholarly journals, and newspapers. 

Periodicals are great sources of information because they can:

• Focus on a very narrow topic
• Provide current information in all subject areas
• Summarize research
• Present scholarly research in peer-reviewed journals

Points to Remember:

• Both magazines and journal articles as well as newspaper articles can be good sources for your assignments
• Often a combination of both magazines and journals will be most appropriate for undergraduate research unless otherwise required by your instructor
• It is important to distinguish between the levels of scholarship found in journals and the various types of periodicals
